When inflating a latex balloon, make sure the inflated balloon looks round but not long or pear-shaped. If it looks oval and overstretched at the neck, it is overinflated. You can also check the firmness of the balloon; if it is bouncy and firm, it is the correct size.

For foil balloons, stop inflating the balloon as soon as the seams of the balloon become flat and firm. Feel the surface of the mylar balloon; if it’s wrinkled on the surface, add more air.

Inflating the balloon to the correct size can not only avoid a sudden pop but also extend the lifespan of a foil balloon for future repeat uses.
